Temporarily hosted by Flavia the Bibliophile and Dani @ Mousai Books. Normally hosted by Katie @ Never Not Reading and Darque Reader Reads. From Katie’s blog: Calendar Girls is a monthly blog event created by Melanie at MNBernard Books, and Flavia at Flavia the Bibliophile. It is designed to ignite bookish discussions among readers, and was inspired by the 1961 Neil Sedaka song, Calendar Girl. Just like the song, each month has a different theme. Each blogger picks their favorite book from the theme, and on the first Monday of the month reveals their pick in a Calendar Girls post. Make sure to post back to the hostess’s post, and I will make a master list for the month. The master lists allow everyone to see the other Calendar Girls’ picks and to pop on over to their blogs. Thus, we all get to chat about books and even make some new friends!
The theme for January is New Beginnings: Your favorite first book in a new series.
I had somewhat of a hard time coming up with a book for this one as I really haven’t read too many series that aren’t completed yet. I looked back in my Goodreads and found two possibilities but I’m going to go with my favorite between the two. One of my favorite books that I read last year, and is a first in a new series with the sequel being published this April is:

Synopsis from Goodreads: “The Library of Ever is an adventure across time and space, as a young girl becomes a warrior for the forces of knowledge.
With her parents off traveling the globe, Lenora is bored, bored, bored—until she discovers a secret doorway into the ultimate library. Mazelike and reality-bending, the library contains all the universe’s wisdom. Every book ever written, and every fact ever known, can be found within its walls. And Lenora becomes its newly appointed Fourth Assistant Apprentice Librarian.
She rockets to the stars, travels to a future filled with robots, and faces down a dark nothingness that wants to destroy all knowledge. To save the library, Lenora will have to test her limits and uncover secrets hidden among its shelves.”
Oh this sounds cute!
Thank you, it really was wicked cute. I can’t wait to read the sequel.
I’ve never heard of your pick before but it sounds like a great read! Thank you for sharing, Ashely! 😀
It’s such an adventurous read!

Ooh…this sounds like an interesting read. I love a good magical library. I might have to pick this book up.
Great choice!
Thank you! I’m a sucker for books about books and libraries.
Me too!
Have you read The Library of the Unwritten by A.J. Hackwith?
Not yet. I’ve read The Great Library series by Rachel Caine and The Invisible Library series by Genevieve Cogman, the newest book comes out this week I think.
Yep! I haven’t made it far in The Invisible Library series, just the first book so far, but I own them all, and the new one is out tomorrow.
I’ve read all but the one that comes out tomorrow, I pretty much binge read the first five.
Nice! I used to be able to binge series but now I can only manage two or three before I need a long break…well unless each book is 800+ pages because then it is only one book then a break. Lol.
