Today’s discussion is going to be about likes vs. comments on blog posts. You may be thinking that this is a random post, but it really isn’t. This post is also my announcement post for the February Comment Challenge hosted by Alicia at Kernels of Nonsense and Lonna at FLYLēF. This challenge is all about encouraging people to comment on each other’s posts rather than just liking the post. Lonna and Alicia hosted this in the summer and I participated in all three months, and I plan to do the same for the winter!
I don’t really have a problem with people just liking my posts, but how do I know if someone actually read my post. I know sometimes time can be an issue, but I always make an effort to comment on a post if I know that I can write something meaningful, it lets the reader know that I took the time to read their post. I always love getting comments, because it lets me know that someone actually took the time to read what I wrote.
What are your thoughts on likes vs. comments? And please sign up for the comment challenge, it’s one of my favorites, you get to connect with and meet more bloggers!
Hi Ashley, I love comments! And because of that love, I always try to spread it as much and as far as I can. So, while likes is something I’m more available to give, I also try very hard to also comment. Thank you for participating in the Comment Challenge, and for such a lovely post about this challenge.
The same ppl like my stuff and the same ppl comment so I know who’s reading and who isn’t. I even have ppl who never comment or like my stuff and I wonder why I even follow them or vice versa…if we have so many followers then why do I get about 30 of the same ppl over and over?
Those are the ones I take the time to comment with…the ones who take the time to comment on my stuff, even if it’s for a min!!
I do the same.
I definitely try to comment as much as I can, but on days where I’m feeling particularly anxious or am tired/busy I will tend to like posts without commenting. I know it’s not as good as an actual comment, but I hope it’s enough to say ‘hey, I read your post and thought it was pretty great!’. Sometimes I’ll like review posts too that I don’t want to risk reading because of spoilers.
Understandable.
I am ok with both. Of course I would love to get comments because I like interacting with everybody but I am notorious for just liking a post because I have a hard time coming up with what to say. However this year I am determined to comment more on people’s posts.
I definitely want to make the effort to leave more comments this year, one of my main goals. Great point to bring up!
Thank you!
Comments are better in my oppionon. It means someting connected with the reader.
Comments are always lovely to receive – I love interacting with other bloggers. Though sometimes I struggle to think of something to write on other people’s posts, but I like to make the effort as often as I can. It’s quite overwhelming when you’re following so many blogs
I love getting comments too,This let’s me know if the reader has appreciated my post or disliked it 🙂
I definitely prefer comments to likes. I know that many bloggers (me included) sometimes use likes when they don’t have time to leave a comment, but they want to let the blogger know they read and enjoyed their post. I like comments because although I like that people are reading my blog, I love when we get a chance to engage with one another. Hope you enjoy the challenge this winter, Ashley!
Thank you! The comment challenge really is amazing.
I like getting likes and comments but comments definitely feel more meaningful because that means someone took the time to write their thoughts. I appreciate any kind of interaction though!
♥ this post! I agree with other commenters in that I may simply like a post if I can’t really think of a comment, but do really like what I read. This also reminds me that I need to sign up for next month’s Comment Challenge! 😀
I follow a lot of blogs and it’s really hard for me to keep up, so I’m in the habit of reading posts of people I know actually make an effort to read my own posts and comment on it. Sometimes I even read some posts but I don’t have anything to say so I don’t just comment. I guess.
I don’t follow too many blogs that I can’t keep up. And I’m the same way with reading posts and not having anything to say too.
I think time does become my major issue when commenting, though I do find it much easier to make comments on WordPress blogs even when I’m browsing on my phone (for some reason Blogspot hates me, lol!). I did love the monthly comment challenge, though! I might have to try it again if they host it over the summer, when I’m on break and can devote more than one particular day to respond to comments and catch up on blogs, haha.
I mostly follow and comment on WordPress blogs because it really is so much easier to comment on them than Blogspot or Blogger!
I love receiving comments on my posts and I try to reciprocate, but some times either I don’t have the time, or I can’t quite think of what I want to say.😕
This is a really wonderful challenge! I always try to comment on others posts as much as I can, and it is always wonderful how it often sparks conversations with other bloggers. Likes are wonderful, but nothing makes me smile more then a lovely comment!
I love how comments start conversations!
I like the idea of a comments challenge. I always appreciate comments on my posts and need to make more of an effort to do the same.
It’s one of my favorite blogging challenges!
Most of the time I try to comment on someone’s post. But sometimes I simply can’t come up with something nice or constructive to say. In those cases I just like the post because: nice post, is also somewhat meaningless at times.
This is something I’ve wanted to talk about for a while. I look at so many blogs and bookstagrams and booktubes… But if my day isn’t jammed backed I try and comment. I didn’t know if that is what everyone does or just a me thing. I do appreciate when you comment on my posts. Even when it’s just a short line. 🙂
