The lovely Aentee from Read At Midnight is hosting a wonderful readathon that will be running from January 1, 2017, to January 15, 2017. The readathon is called the DAReadAThon, a play on Dumbledore’s Army. There are seven challenges and each challenge is named after a spell from Harry Potter! With this readathon, you can earn house points for your Hogwarts house, which is going to be so much fun! And if anyone is wondering, I’m a proud Gryffindor! This readathon is all about reading diverse books! While I have read quite a few diverse books, I am making a concerted effort to read more. This is one of three January readathons that I will be participating in. Without further ado here is my TBR:
Expecto Patronum: Read a diverse book featuring an issue of personal significance to you or a loved one. For this challenge, I will be reading A List of Cages by Robin Roe. There are two main characters in this book and one of them has ADHD. I have ADD, while it isn’t the same as ADHD it is very similar.
Expelliarmus: Disarm your own prejudices. Read a diverse book featuring a marginalized group that you don’t often read about. I will be reading The Rest of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness, why? Because it encompasses a lot of groups that I don’t often read about. I don’t read enough books dealing with mental illness, main characters of color, and characters who are part of the LGBTQ community.
Protego: Protect those narratives and keep them true. Read an #OwnVoices book for this prompt. For this, I am going to read The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. I did think about re-reading I Am Malala for this challenge, however, I decided that I would read another own voices book.
Reducto: Smash that glass ceiling. Read a book that empowers women from all different walks of life. I am going to be reading Black Moon by Romina Russell for this one. The main character Rho is such a strong female lead and has to become a leader.
Impedimenta: Read a diverse book that’s been left sitting on your TBR for far too long. I will be reading A Whole New World by Liz Braswell for this one. It’s a retelling of Aladdin!
Stupefy: Read a diverse book that has stunned the internet with all its well-deserved hype. The Sun is Also A Star is a perfect book to read for this challenge. It is very much hyped.
Lumos: Read a diverse book that was recommended by one of your fellow bloggers. I am going to finally read The Wrath and the Dawn by Renée Ahdieh. I have seen this on a lot of blogs and of course a lot of Booktube channels. It’s also been on my TBR for a while too.
Brilliant TBR, Ashley! I really need to read The Rest of Us Just Live Here and The Wrath and The Dawn so I’m looking forward to seeing what you think of those.
Thank you!
This sounds awesome. I can’t wait to follow your progress.
I absolutely adored The Wrath and the Dawn. My poor heart. I hope that you love it! ❤ Good luck!
Thank you!
