How do I decide which blogs I’m going to read and follow

Something that I love is blogging, but I also love reading blogs of others too.  Sometimes it can be a challenge finding blogs to follow.  What I have found that helps me in deciding which blogs I want to read and follow depends on content, subject matter and whether it relates to my interest or not.  I like to read blogs that have content of substance.  What I mean by that is, something that is readable.  If I come across a blog that just promotes things, doesn’t have any real substantial content, is filled with advertisements and contests I’m not going to waste my time and energy reading it.  Blogs like these don’t have much thought put into them.  I’ve come across some of these blogs and I just can’t bring myself to follow them.  I have also come across blogs that do have readable content, and someone put thought into what they were writing.  However, those blogs weren’t about a subject matter of my personal interest and I couldn’t relate to the content.

Sometimes I come across blogs that are about a subject that I have interest in, I just don’t like the way things are written.  For example, I can’t stand reading anything on Barstool Sports.  I don’t like the way the content is written.  Some people find Barstool Sports funny, but I don’t find anything about that blog funny at all.

One of my favorite blogs to follow and read is Grantland.  It’s Bill Simmons blog, it’s the perfect mix of sports and pop culture.  The content is well written and pertains to something that I’m interested in, which is sports and pop culture.  Grantland incorporates these two subjects seamlessly.  Another one of my favorite blogs to read is the Red Sox Full Count Blog on WEEI.com.  It has a lot of good information, and even posts about what is going on in the minor leagues.  I love the blogs on NESN and ESPN Boston too.  Some of those blogs are updated live, which is really helpful if you can’t get to a tv or radio to listen to the games, you’r still in the loop as to what is going on with the games.

Another interest of mine is music.  It has been a struggle for me to find a really good music blog.  I don’t listen to the radio, so I rely on music blogs to discover new artists.  My favorite music blogs are on Billboard.com.  Billboard always knows what’s up in the music industry and is a reliable source for all things music.

Outside of these subject areas I don’t really read too many other blogs, and I’m always on the lookout for new blogs to follow.
